4 Mistakes Most Lottery Players Make
Okay, be honest, how many of you have fantasized about winning the lottery in the last twelve months? For many of us, the thought of winning the lottery is the ultimate in escapism. It’s like reading a fantasy epic. Most of us accept the fact that winning the lottery is pure fantasy, which is why we don’t play at all, or if we do, we play very rarely.
The odds of winning the jackpot are against you, but somebody has to win, so why can’t it be you? To ensure you have the greatest possible chance of scooping the jackpot, here’s a look at 4 mistakes most lottery players make.
Okay, first and foremost, the biggest mistake you can make when it comes to playing, and hopefully winning, the lottery jackpot is to not play at all. Some people consider the lottery a waste of money, yet they are quite happy to pay more than double for a cheap and nasty cup of coffee that they could make at home for a fraction of the price.
A few Euros here and a few Euros there is all that is needed to potentially change your life forever. The odds are against you, but there is always a chance that you will win if you play. If you don’t play, you’ve no chance of winning.
Not playing after a bad run
The great thing about playing the lottery is that, even if you don’t win the jackpot, there’s still a chance of making some money. If you get a minimum of 3 balls you are guaranteed to make something. If you match 4 balls you will make even more, and so on.
Winning something, even if it isn’t very much, is still a good feeling and it helps motivate people into continuing play. A lot of players will go for several weeks, or even months, and not win anything. This then causes them to become discouraged and they stop buying lottery tickets. Again, if you aren’t playing, there’s no chance that you will ever win.
Spending too much on tickets
On the complete opposite end of the spectrum we have the following scenario. There are some players out there that are so obsessed with winning the lottery that they will likely put themselves into debt by spending far too much on tickets. Statistically your odds of winning will improve if you purchase more tickets and numbers, but you need to know where to draw a line. You should never put yourself into debt in the hopes of escaping debt, as that defeats the purpose in the first place. If you can’t afford to play, wait until you can afford it, or perhaps cut back on other non-essential luxuries.
Losing your ticket
If you play the lottery online, there’s no chance that you will lose your ticket as it is stored on your account. If you purchase a ticket from the shops however, once you receive it, it is your responsibility to keep it safe. If you lose it, you can’t claim your winnings unless you find it in a certain amount of time. Winning the jackpot and then losing your ticket before you can claim your winnings just does not bear thinking about.
